Obvious question: What happened to all the other-gallon hats? Probable answer: We forgot about them. Nineteenth-century newspapers were full of people wearing two-gallon hats, four-gallon hats, and five-gallon hats. Two-gallon was most usual. The "ten-gallon" hat made its first recorded appearance in Cincinnati in 1908, and was immortalized twenty years later by President Calvin Coolidge

Hamas began life in 1987 as a Gaza City offshoot of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. Its founder, Ahmed Yassin, was half-blind and wheelchair bound. His successor, Yahya Sinwar, is a "butcher and psychopath". Sinwar ran Hamas from an Israeli jail cell until his release in a 2011 prisoner swap. He masterminded the building of the Gaza tunnels and led this year's pivotal terrorist attack on Israel
